Ever walk into your bedroom at night, which isn't the worst of temperatures, but when you hop in bed the sheets are FREEZING? Yeah, its the worst. Why is it that the register always keeps the other side of the room warm, but not your mattress?? Here's an idea.
The invention of the day is a device that reroutes the heat from your register, on the wall, to under your bed. This way you can have the heat where you need it. If the bed is warm, who cares about the air around the room?
Basically, all you would need to do is extend the duct work from the wall to the bed. It would open up underneath the bed. Possibly even add a shield that keeps the heat underneath the bed and doesn't let the warm air escape.
But what happens when you need the heat in the rest of the room and not just under the bed? Simple. A swinging door can be opened and closed along the duct work, allowing for the heat to be directed into the open air, rather than under the bed.
