Localized Search Term Analytics

Search engines, such as Google, should collect area concentrated search terms and provide analytics for those locations. It would be very useful to know what individuals are searching for while at a particular place. For example, it would benefit a store like Walmart to know what their customers are searching for in regard to their shopping experience while at a particular store. Or, while at Yosemite National Park the search term analytics may suggest visitors don't know how to find a specific area or attraction and this could motivate alterations to help allevate confusion. Things that wouldn't normally have been brought to the attention of the owner/proprietor could be use to positively help the location/area.

There might be some big brother issues on this one but I think it would be a great information to collect and analyze. While I believe this technology should not intrude on individuals privacy at home, searching in public should be public information therefor a right for anyone to know or use.

Google Maps Nearby Location Notification

Within the Google Maps app a user should have the ability to enter locations they wish to be notified about when their proximity is near. Within the app the user should be about to search for existing locations and change the proximity of notification for each listing.  For example, when I'm traveling I would like to be updated when I am near a Starbucks without physically searching for it.

Location-based Downloading

While at the local starbucks this evening I grabbed another one of those free iTunes music cards (today's was from the bands Glasser and Generationals). So I take this little card home and enter the unique ID into iTunes, download the track then sync it to my iPhone. It seems a bit ridiculous not to mention the environmental waste.

Here's an idea to streamline this process. A user simple scans (UPC or RFID) an establishments unique ID and downloads the file directly to the device. This could be used like the starbucks example or to download a resturants menu or the full contact informaions of any establishment (including hours of operation, important calendar dates, coupons and/or useful information). This platform could open up new possibilities for advertising and deeper development. For example, a menu could be downloaded and cross referenced with a user's allergies or specific diet regime.

Odd Job and Random Task

I guess this is more of a question than a fleshed out idea, but is there an app out there that lets someone either post odd jobs or take odd jobs? This is very similar to my other idea to have someone pay someone else to wait in line for them be expanded.

The concept is simple, you post a job you need done. A registered someone else could take that job. Just like with eBay, you would rate the employer if you took a job and rate the employee if you offered the job. Jobs could be searched for by location, type, skills required, etc. You can have the app automatically alert you if there are jobs nearby that match your skill set and you could also have others recommend jobs for you as well.

Don't Be a Douche, You're on Camera

Duck and I were discussing this a few weeks ago when we were driving around. There was an asshole in front of us that was driving like a fat douche. Naturally, I though of this: make a website where you could take a picture of the douche's license plate and upload it, with the geo-location for the world to see. Maybe this will shame people into driving more like civil human beings. But then again, probably not.

There is probably something like this out there already in one form or another. The idea is to scrape twitter for tweets concerning recent events like concerts, bar tours, 5/10K runs, film festivals, etc. The system will take the geolocation of each tweet and then find photos related to those events on sites like PicasaWeb, Flikr, Photobucket, etc.

The system will be able to figure out what photos are associated with what event by finding information on the event, and most importantly, the date and associating that with the datestamps on the photos.

What you'd get is a map and a timeline where events are marked and photos are displayed. The idea could also be expanded to show, for example the history of particular landmark like the Statue of Liberty. At least, as far back as we have had geo-tagged photos on digital cameras.

Google Latitude +

An app the utilizes the location data from Google Latitude to automatically check a user into multiple "checkin" apps i.e. facebook and foursquare.

This would alert you when you arrive at a location then ask you if you'd like to check in. The user would be able to select which apps to update and also include a text status update.
