Weather App Notifications

Someone from Cydia should make a tweak to the weather app on the iPhone that notifies the user when a certain temp. or forecast is reached. This would be great for gardeners and homeowners concerned with covering their plants when it gets too cold. I'm sure there's other uses.. Like, I don't want to go outside until it's at least 65 degrees so I can be notified me when the Earth has been preheated to my liking.

Shopping car self check-out scanners.

Ever been to Sams Club when the lines are really, really long? They have employees scan your products, while you are in line, so as you step to the register all you have to do is pay.

Check this out. Why not throw a scanner on every shopping cart (scanners are cheap in 2011)? As the customer shops, he/she scans every product before it is placed into the shopping cart. Along with price, it would generate the total weight of your order, after each additional product is added.

Done shopping? Go to the checkout and your shopping cart scanner already has the total cost and weight generated. The clerk verifies the weight, by a floor scale (the shopping cart has already been tared out), and charges the customer for scanned total.

This would eliminate lines in stores. It would also eliminate the need for multiple employees, running multiple registers. This is basically just putting the 'self check-out' in each individuals shopping cart.

Simple. Quick. Genius.

PS...This could also be an app, which is an incentive to bring customers in. Think about it. An iPhone app that lets you skip lines in the store. Just scan the products with your phone.

Programmable iPhone Battostat App

How bout home thermostats that you can program to drop the heat/cold through out the day/night to save on heating/cooling bills? Pretty much a no brainer for the cost, I would say.

Why not have a 'thermostat' for an iPhone; I call it a Battostat. This would be an app that you can preset to kill certain apps at certain times, wake them up and make them live when you need them, and cut your screen brightness at certain times through out the day. This would all be set for the main purpose of saving your precious iPhone battery. I sure as hell dont need my facebook, twitter, and email updating through out the night. I also dont need my screen burning out my retinas while I'm laying in bed blogging for cellPIG.com. Yup, the pigs an oinkin genius.

This idea was inspired by the growing number of car accidents caused by txting while driving.

The app works in conjunction with any message receiving app to decrease the amount of time a user spends looking at their device. When a message is received the app determines the rate of travel for the device then automatically responds with a previously composed message. The message can be altered and the app can be turned on/off.

iPhone to iPhone Wired Connect

I'm surprised no one has made an app or game or anything that requires two iPhones to be connected to each other with the 30 pin adaptor. I'm sure Apple has nixed that idea but why haven't the boys (and girls) of Cydia developed anything of this sort? Anything would be possible, for example: sharing a charge, transferring data, sharing media or even the first-ever iPhone nunchucks.

One drawback is that after preforming a simple google search doesn't seem that this hardware is being sold. Obviously that's because no one has a need for a male 30 pin to male 30 pin yet but that's not to say that a wiring diagram isn't out there.

This seems like one of those situations where supply does not meet demand because there is no demand being made. If a Cydia developer writes any of the subsequent examples any wiring company will jump on the chance to make the hardware. In the meantime early adopters will make their own.

Here are some ideas for developers:

• Share battery life between Apple devises.
• Data Transfer
• Media Sharing (video, audio, books)
• Gaming
• Synced Processes
• Share Video Timecode
• Sync iPhone to iPad (my favorite)

Web Apps, Where's the Beef?

I have recently converted to using solely web apps on both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone but I have two gripes:

1. The Mac OS does not allow placement of web apps on the dock.

• How hard would it be to add this feature to the OS? I mean Apple already uses this technology in the iPhone. Seems a bit fishy. Is this another attempt by Apple to stifle innovation for control? Maybe when the allure of the iPad wears off they'll add this feature to their other products.

2. Notifications are not integrated on the iPhone OS.

• For example, I no longer use iOS Mail instead I use the Gmail web app but the Gmail web app does not alert me when I have a new email. Without that feature it makes that web app kind of pointless. Example two, same thing goes for google voicemail web app. The only way I know that I receive a VM is when I get an email with the VM in it. Now, I don't need the web app at all.

Now, I don't know a lot about development but these two things seem to be overlooked in the Web 2.0 conversion. I bet a dev could write an app that allows for web apps to be integrated into a Mac's desktop Dock and write a preifirial app that notifies you when one of your web apps is updated on an iPhone. Where is that dev?

Run iOS on PC/Mac

Imagine a virtual machine that mimics the iPhone/iPod/iPad OS of Android so anyone could download apps and use them on a PC or Mac. This VM could be a more streamlined (less functional) operating system but allow the app market to be opened up to more devices. This would be the first step toward complete app world domination.

Doing this would attract users without an iPhone/iPod/iPad and they'd increase app usage and purchase from the App Store. For instance, say a person without an iPhone/iPod/iPad wants to play Words for Free with Friends, they can't do it! That is, unless of course, they can download a virtual machine that allows them to do so. I'm sure Apple's reasoning has something to do with forcing users to purchase these devices but I believe in the future they command a large portion of the market they will implement this widget.

Odd Job and Random Task

I guess this is more of a question than a fleshed out idea, but is there an app out there that lets someone either post odd jobs or take odd jobs? This is very similar to my other idea to have someone pay someone else to wait in line for them be expanded.

The concept is simple, you post a job you need done. A registered someone else could take that job. Just like with eBay, you would rate the employer if you took a job and rate the employee if you offered the job. Jobs could be searched for by location, type, skills required, etc. You can have the app automatically alert you if there are jobs nearby that match your skill set and you could also have others recommend jobs for you as well.

Teach Me to Paint

A thing that I have never been able to do is to draw or paint. I'm not artistic and I won't be until I start actually drawing and painting. Something that could help me along is an app that allows me to draw and paint over another picture.

Take an image that reflects something you want to learn how to draw or embodies some type of image you wish to be more proficient at painting. Place a "layer" over that image and allow the user to paint on that layer. The layer will be transparant except for where the user has painted. This will allow the user to make the physical movements with their hands while giving him feedback with their eyes. This will make him or her a better artist. This gives the user experience where they would not have gotten it before.

Obviously, this would work best with a pad-like touchscreen device.

Flashmob, Anyone?

The idea is to create an app for a phone that allows someone to initiate a flashmob. The trick is to make it so that the flashmob actually happens. The flashmob won't be successful when you allow anyone to designate a place for a flashmob but if you limit the people allowed to create the mob it will work. A person registered with the app will be chosen at random. When this happens, they will be sent a notification and they have a certain time limit to choose a place to have a flashmob happen. Once the person chooses a place, the details will be sent to everyone registered on the app. If the person does not choose a place within the time limit, a new person is chosen.
